This painting was going to be a callange from the start . The model who is drop dead gorgeous by anyones standards (That is just outwardly ... Her heart shines so bright .. she Drop dead gorgeous on the inside as well). It would be a shame to cover her face with paint . I know I know i keep saying that I don’t do textiles (painting of clothing) But this is something that just seem to fit.
I was struggling to find a way to Paint the model as the Goddess Psyche. I wanted to do something that really represented the goddess other then a pair of butterfly wings. I thought of doing the classic greek ruins .. but then I started to realize that I have already done that for two other paintings . . I had to think of something more original. With only 4 days left before the model was scheduled for the painting I had to think of something that I could fo quickly with out sacrificing quality. The idea of a black background sounded like a good idea at first but was too simple .. So from here I started to think of other ways to trigger inspiration . THE INTERNET There is nothing like seeing what other artist have done in the past to trigger your imagination. I have always felt that if you see a painting and you think “I could do better then that “ Put your brushes where your mouth is. Well so here I was searching through historical paintings, Modern interpretations , And Bad Manga knockoffs. When I noticed that most of the historical paintings had the God Eros in them. From there it was more study. I read 4 different stories about psychie and then checked out a few Wiki on the subject where I discovered why Eros was so important . That is when it hit me. A night Sky with Eros’s Wing (and only his wing) taking up most of the background as if to suggest that she is almost in an embrace. from there in the night sky the Moon will be shining down on the model. On the background the Turquoise Butterfly wings. From there the model will have a painted Toga matching or complementing the color of the Wings with a gold belt. The models face will be more modest make-up showing off more of her natural beauty instead of covering her face with paint . I was lucky/unlicky because the painting session had to be canceled due to forest fires preventing passage from Seattle to Sacramento with out having to enter areas of smoke . As much as this is disappointing because I do not get a chance to see the model or the photographer (Both very important people in my life) It did give me more time to paint and take my time with the project. |
